Children as young as 7 are engaging in cutting and other forms of self-harm, according to a study published in the journal Pediatrics. Furthermore, researchers discovered nearly 8 percent  of third graders reported at least one instance of self-harm. Girls were three times more likely to try to hurt themselves than boys. “An important thing for parents is to follow their gut instinct,” says Benjamin Hankin, an associate professor of psychology at the University of Denver. “If you think your child is experiencing emotional pain, then ask. Sometimes they may deny it, but parents shouldn’t shrug it off.” (ABC News)
