As concerns regarding Internet addiction grow in the United States, camps and treatment clinics are popping up across the country. On the low end, you have places such as Camp Grounded—characterized as a screen-free “summer camp for adults,” will welcome tech-stressed campers for a weekend for $495. On the other end, you have places such as Utah’s Outback Therapeutic Expeditions or restart Center for Digital Technology Sustainability near Seattle, which can cost as much as $30,000 for a multi-week stay. Outback’s guests sometimes are not willing participants: “Griffin,” a 16-year-old former patient, was awoken one night and whisked away on a plane to the treatment center, where he spent weeks in the wilderness, learning how to build fires, tie knots and construct shelters far away from any sort of YouTube instructional video. While it may seem drastic, Griffin says it was helpful. “It was a weird feeling,” he admits. “I was in the middle of nowhere, and there was nothing I could do to get my computer. Eventually, I realized I could live without it.” (TheAtlantic.com)
