It’s Tim Tebow time around the nation, not just in Colorado, where fans are celebrating the quarterback’s winning ways. The Broncos were 1-4 before Tebow took over as quarterback. They won seven of eight games since then, climbing atop the AFC West on Dec. 11.

Tebow is also a committed and outspoken Christian, which means he is a fruitful topic for discussion in your groups. Even students who don’t love sports can relate to the ways people relate to Tebow’s public expression of his deep faith.

Here are a number of angles and resources you can use as you pursue this topic:

1) Cover Boy
The first-ever issue of the NFL’s new magazine (which is creatively titled NFL Magazine) features Tebow on the cover. “Tim Tebow is current,” says the magazine’s editor about the Dec. 13, 2011, debut issue. “What better relevant topic than Tim Tebow?”

2) Talking About: Tim Tebow
We’re inaugurating a new teaching tool, and similar to the NFL Magazine, our first edition focuses on Tebow. See this great teaching resource and discussion starter here.

3) Kurt Warner on Tim Tebow
Before Tebow, Kurt Warner was the NFL’s most outspoken Christian quarterback. In an article published in The Arizona Republic, Warner suggested Tebow tone down the God talk: “There’s almost a faith cliche, where (athletes) come out and say, ‘I want to thank my Lord and Savior.’ As soon as you say that, the guard goes up, the walls go up, and I came to realize you have to be more strategic.”

4) Tim Tebow: Evidence of Things Unseen
By Patton Dodd
Former YWJ contributor (and current Patheos.com editor) Patton Dodd has written a powerful essay about Tebow for The Washington Post‘s “On Faith” blog. See him also on “Hannity.”

5) The Tebow Mystique e-book
Patton Dodd’s new e-book on Tebow is available for $2.99 at Amazon and Barnes & Noble. You also can buy the book here.
