My Time with God for Students features the New Testament broken up into a year’s worth of daily readings. Each day’s reading also includes a smaller Old Testament passage and an “insight” by a popular Christian author. Each one is intended to relate to a part of the day’s reading. The section finishes with an application question, comment or action point.

Putting questions of translation aside, MTGS is a mixed bag. The design is great, placing prominence on the Scripture text and avoiding the tedious black-on-white color scheme found in most Bibles. If not for the doublecolumn setting, the design would be near perfect for this audience. Unfortunately, the extra-biblical material too often moves to personal application before the historical meaning can be discovered. And while some tough questions are taken on, other vital issues are left unaddressed.
