Let’s Walk the Talk: Girlfriend to Girlfriend on Faith, Friendship and Finding Real Love

While the content of Let’s Walk the Talk is not new, the layout may be more appealing to today’s youth. These are typical chapters for a teen girl’s book—identity, dating, relationships, sex, friendships, clothing, family. So what makes it unique? Maybe the format. Danae’s goal is to provide a sort of “big sister…discussion among girlfriends” environment.

Each chapter is a brief look at an issue, beginning with a personal story or intro. She then includes quotes from a variety of people whom she has interviewed on the topics, including the perspective of other teen girls, guys, youth workers, teachers, parents and pastors. The chapters conclude with a few reflection questions.
The book seems to be written for teen girls who have grown up in the church and are concerned about personal or “right behavior.” It may not appeal to a newer Christian or one who is asking questions about how to integrate the complexities of global or community issues into their lives. I was left wanting a deeper, more diverse conversation on some of the complicated concerns facing young women today.
