Girl Talk: 52 Weekly Devotions

Girl Talk is a weekly devotional geared toward middle-school-aged girls. Each week begins with a story, and each day has its own set of questions that aims to help girls apply the values taught in the story to their own lives. The questions have spaces for girls to write their responses, making this book multifunctional as a devotional and a journal. At the end of each week is a concluding prayer that ties in with the lesson.

While the book is encouraging, it may not always relate to what a middle-schooler is going through. Pre-teen girls face serious issues; and while some stories in this book address these topics, each ends on an optimistic note. This may lead girls to the false assumption that every conflict should end happily, which is unrealistic. This book would be better suited for an even younger audience of maybe 9- or 10-year-old girls.
