If kids aren’t drinking or using drugs like they used to, just what are they doing? Could it be…reading?

We can’t say for sure. What we can say is that in the first three quarters of 2014, sales of young-adult books have skyrocketed, soaring 22.4 percent compared to 2013, according to Media Bistro.

The success of YA-oriented books helped propel overall book sales to a nearly 5 percent increase, but if you subtract YA books from the mix, fiction and non-fiction sales for adults declined 3.3 percent.

Sounds as if maybe kids should start nagging their parents to pick up a book. (Time)
