Active teens are more likely to be healthier and happier than their more sedentary peers, according to an Australian study. Researchers say the average Aussie teen spends about three and one-third hours a day playing video games or watching television and a little more than two hours playing sports or doing other forms of physical activity. Kids who spent about two and a half hours a day being active were naturally healthier; but they were also happier, reportedly getting along better with peers. More sedentary children were more likely to report feeling lonely or shy. “Parents should be conscious of the fact that outdoor physical activity is beneficial to their child’s overall health and well-being, and should try to limit the time their child spends in front of the screen,” says Bamini Gopinath, a senior research fellow at the University of Sydney.
