• Fatherless Generation: Redeeming the Story by John Sowers, President of TMP
• To Own a Dragon or Father Fiction by Donald Miller, Founder of TMP

When Don Miller wrote To Own a Dragon, he realized there needed to be more than a book to help the fatherless—there needed to be people. Thus was born The Mentoring Project, a non-profit with the purpose of making a way to train guys to be mentors and to equip churches to run mentoring programs. TMP began its work locally, in Portland, Ore., but recently released a toolkit that contains the materials necessary for passionate laymen anywhere to begin mentoring programs with their local churches.

Yet, how do you equip people in various contexts across the country who are heavy on passion and light on experience? The Operations Manual is TMP’s apt response to that question. After giving an overview of mentoring, the Manual outlines the steps that churches can take to establish models that make sense for their unique settings. The Manual continues with recruitment advice, training instructions, the how-to of mentor/mentee matches and a slew of awesome mentoring activity ideas.

In addition to the operations manual, the toolkit contains compelling promotional materials (a DVD, a poster and 20 brochures), a thorough training curriculum (a DVD and Field Manuals) and two bonus books that are great for circulating amongst the men in your church.

In essence, the box that comes in the mail when you order this toolkit—though little bigger than a ream of paper—contains the power to rewrite the stories of fatherless youths in your community and across the nation.
