It’s not like colleges and universities are scrapping their glossy brochures and campus tours. Many, however, are supplementing traditional recruitment techniques with a presence on YouTube, the ubiquitous video-sharing site.

“The primary benefit is this is where the young people are,” said Nancy Cooley, vice provost for distance learning at Old Dominion University. “They are out looking at YouTube every day. As they’re exploring YouTube, we want them to find ODU.”

Old Dominion, whose YouTube channel offers videos featuring faculty, a helicopter campus tour and even snippets from a university film festival. Other universities on YouTube include University of California at Berkeley, Vanderbilt University and the University of Notre Dame; and the list grows by the week. (Associated Press)
