Prayer
“Heavenly Father, thank You for adopting me into Your holy family. Deepen my faith through Your Word, and draw me closer to You.”

Take a few minutes of silence. In your own words, ask God to meet you here.

Reading
After Jesus left the girl’s home, two blind men followed along behind Him, shouting, “Son of David, have mercy on us!” They went right into the house where He was staying, and Jesus asked them, “Do you believe I can make you see?”

“Yes, Lord,” they told Him, “we do.” Then He touched their eyes and said, “Because of your faith, it will happen.” Then their eyes were opened, and they could see! Jesus sternly warned them, “Don’t tell anyone about this.” But instead, they went out and spread His fame all over the region (Matthew 9:27-31).

Response
After reading those verses, what are your first impressions? Why do you think Jesus told them not to tell anyone about being healed? Write down anything that comes to mind about this passage.

Insight
The two men in this encounter with Jesus refer to Him as the “Son of David.” It seems strange that they’d call Jesus the Son of David when we know in earlier verses He is the son of Mary and Joseph. However, in the Old Testament, the phrase “Son of David” sometimes was used to refer to anyone from the line of David. In Matthew 1:20, Joseph is called the son of David. There is great significance that Jesus came from David’s line. When these men identified Jesus as the Son of David, they were expressing faith that He was the Messiah. Jesus challenged them to go further. He wanted to know if they also believed He could heal them. In response to their confessions of faith in Him, He healed them.

Reflection
What situations are you facing that require you to believe in and rely on the power of Jesus?
Take a moment and think about how much faith you need to get through a normal day. Do you feel weak or strong in faith?
How could you put yourself in situations that would require more faith?
Write a prayer to God expressing your reactions to these questions.
