If you could have three wishes, what would they be? Scientists asked this question of more than 100 adolescents ages 11-18, and in so doing say they discovered some curious insights into the adolescent mind. About 85 percent of respondents wanted to fulfill wishes for themselves, while 32 percent wanted to grant wishes for other people. Oddly, only 10 percent mixed selfish wishes with giving others a wish or two. Boys were more likely to wish for something for themselves (74 percent, compared to 46 percent for girls), while girls were more likely to fulfill a wish of a family member (26 percent compared to 9 percent for boys). Boys were more likely to wish for success, while girls often longed for happiness. Overall, about 41 percent wished they were richer, while just a fifth wished for world peace.
