Social networking helps turn teens’ attention to the plights of others, according to a new study sponsored by World Vision and conducted by Harris Interactive. Researchers say 55 percent of teens polled say outlets such as Facebook and Twitter have made them more aware of the needs of other people—up from 44 percent who said the same thing in 2011; and 91 percent of these teens say it’s important to volunteer. “The jump in the number of teens who say social media sites make them more socially aware is a sign of the times,” says Regina Corson of Harris Interactive.
