In South Korea, where kids start prepping for lucrative careers in preschool and most of the best private schools require their students know English before they walk through their doors, some parents are turning to a revolutionary robot to teach their children a new language. The Kibot runs about $450 in U.S. dollars, but the pricetag gets parents a relentless tutor that can read, sing and teach a multitude of languages. If a pupil leaves it alone for too long, it starts trundling around the house looking for someone to talk with. Oh, and get this: Parents can operate it remotely, via a smartphone. If Mom’s at work and decides its time for her stay-at-home kids to get some Kibot time, she can send the robot to look for them and follow progress through the robot’s built-in webcam. (ABC News)
