After more than 50 years, Barbie’s getting some ink. A new incarnation of the iconic fashion doll, the “tokidoki Barbie,” now comes with tattoos on her left arm and across her chest. Granted, tats aren’t all that radical these days. Celebrities of all stripes sport them, and perhaps it’s just a matter of time before an aged Supreme Court Justice flashes a heart-and-flower tattoo on an upper arm. Keep in mind, the tokidoki Barbie is a limited edition doll marketed for adults—available on the Barbie Collector website for $50. Still, this is Barbie. At least one Barbie critic, a writer for This Fangirl Life, says the new Barbie has turned “America’s most prissy and disproportionate fashion model” into a “horrible hipster/socialite hybrid.” (This Week)
