When six seniors from Cascade High School in Hendricks County, Ind., posted thousands of sticky notes around the school, they thought it was a harmless senior prank. Superintendent Patrick Spray thought differently and suspended the six students—including the validictorian—and tried to fire the custodian on duty. When dozens of students protested the suspensions, Spray suspended them, too. “Students were all over the building unsupervised,” he said. “We’re fortunate that nothing got damaged and no one got hurt.” Public outcry in this rural Indiana enclave forced the board to rescind much of Spray’s punishment—retracting the original suspensions and shortening the subsequent ones for protesting. Turns out, a Hendricks School Board member was notified and approved the stunt, giving students keys to the building. (Indianapolis Star)
