Two parents from Silver Spring, Md., are in danger of losing their children after letting the two walk home by themselves.

The siblings, 6 and 10, were walking back from a nearby park when a policeman stopped them and gave them a stern warning. Maryland Child Protective Services then stepped in and recently found that the parents—Danielle and Alexander Meitiv—were “responsible for unsubstantiated child neglect.” Because of the decision, the Meitivs potentially could have their children taken from them and placed into foster care.

The parents think the whole flap is ludicrous. They want to foster a sense of independence in their two kids, Rafi and Dvora. “I’m just parenting the way I was parented and the way almost every adult I know was parented,” says Danielle. She and Alexander plan to appeal the ruling. (ABC News)
