They’re strong and fast, possessed with rocket arms and a golden touch. It’s no surprise that big-time college athletic programs would scout such stellar athletes, eager to sign them to head their college football or basketball programs. What is a surprise is these colleges are eyeing these kids while they’re…still kids.

LeBron James Jr., son of the famous NBA player, is 10 years old and already receiving offers from colleges. “It’s pretty crazy,” James Sr. says. “It should be a violation. You shouldn’t be recruiting 10-year-old kids.”

Meanwhile, Rivals.com has begun tracking the athletic development of children while they’re still in elementary and middle school. While they’re not labeled college prospects yet, many experts are worried that all this early pressure can’t be good for children, who really have enough to worry about with just growing up.

“It’s ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous,” says Trent Petrie, director of the University of North Texas Center for Sport Psychology and Performance Excellence. “It sends the wrong message at that age, to the child and the parent.” (USA Today)
