Bare Bones is a straightforward and informational resource to aide students in understanding the Bible. Formatted to be a commentary of sorts for teenagers, every chapter is a drive-through version of a book of the Bible that includes basic information, highlights of major themes, summaries of chapter groupings and application points.

As an added bonus, the author also includes Bible study tips and a reading plan for young readers. The “bare bones” approach might be too simplistic and basic for students to gain any real value. The book also falls short on appeal and presentation—a big misstep when targeting today’s youth culture. Ideally, this resource would be used as a complementary reference tool for students learning to navigate the Bible.
