That Is SO Me: 365 Days of Devotions: Flip-Flops, Faith and Friends (Faithgirlz!)

That Is SO Me is a daily devotional designed for preteen girls. It contains short passages, which makes it is easily read, even for those who don’t like to read. Short, easy-to-remember Bible verses are also helpful and could be good starters for sharing faith with friends.

The book is written for the preteen audience, although at times the humor seems patronizing at this level. There are many other teen devotionals on the market that do not underestimate youth in this way and may be far better received than this one. The passages often did not suit the story/advice, and the theological interpretation is sometimes questionable. According to this book, God has given girls the power to crush the serpent’s head when it attacks…which seems a very interesting interpretation of Genesis 3:15.

Overall, the book is something that takes daily challenges for girls and arms them with Bible verses and thoughts to ponder, and helps them through life’s struggles. Any book that helps youth get in touch with God is a good thing. That Is SO Me does help with that by approaching life in bite-sized chunks, however the questionable theology means this book misses the mark.
