Craig Gross and J.R. Mahon are no strangers to controversy, being the founder and director, respectively, of xxxchurch.com. In Starving Jesus, they push the envelope yet again with their critique of and challenge for the American church.
Essentially, both Gross and Mahon feel the church is lazy. Their term for it is “born again lazy.” Christians, they feel, need to get off the pew and into the world to minister and serve in whatever way God is leading. When Christians are not ministering to the world, they starve Jesus. Gross and Mahon emphasize prayer, giving and fasting as vital for discerning the call of Christ and vital in helping Christians “un-starve Jesus.”
Starving Jesus is a quick and worthwhile read. It has great personal stories, passionate critiques and firm challenges for Christians at all levels of maturity.
