Skinny Ms. in partnership with National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence Inc. (NCADD) is challenging college students across America to go alcohol free and abstain from drinking alcoholic beverages for 30 days during Alcohol Awareness Month in April to demonstrate that alcohol is not necessary to have a good time.

The mission of this challenge is to spearhead a national grassroots campaign among colleges to highlight the critical public health issue of alcoholism and its impact on college students, their families, and communities, while highlighting resources available to help.  This movement is designed to effectively raise awareness on the issues that surround college drinking, such as binge drinking, drinking and driving, underage drinking, and the poor effects they have on one’s health.

NCADD president and CEO Robert J. Lindsey says, “As a society, we must do a far better job increasing public awareness, understanding of, and support for prevention, treatment and recovery. In particular, underage drinking by young people is extremely risky behavior, not only in their own lives, but in the lives of friends, neighbors and loved ones.”

NCADD Alcohol Awareness Month, founded by and sponsored by the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence Inc. (NCADD) since 1987, is observed by communities throughout the United States and is a national grassroots effort to support prevention, research, education, intervention, treatment and recovery for alcoholism and alcohol-related problems.
