This book takes on a crucial issue, the sex-saturated nature of mass media, without going to excesses or resorting to scare tactics like most resources on this topic do. It is written by a mother and her teenage daughter, so the book has a rare authenticity to it. It doesn’t treat kids like they’re dumb, talk down to them, or get preachy. The Eversons’ advice for dealing with the media is cautious but realistic engagement, rather than retreating into the “Christian ghetto.” The only puzzling aspect of the book is that Everson defines anything with the slightest hint of sexual content as “pornography” and makes no attempt to describe degrees of porn. Still, this is a book that would be worth passing on to your youths’ parents.
