I’ve read a lot of parenting books, so part of me kept thinking, There’s nothing new here, so why am I enjoying this?

If you keep up with trends and commentary from leading youth culture experts, none of what Holland says will surprise you. But that’s just it. Many parents are too busy to keep up with anything besides their kids’ schedule and laundry. And even if they’ve got what resembles a shrine to Focus on the Family-type books, Holland shares solid advice from his experiences as a police officer and law enforcement trainer, public school speaker and parent in a fresh way. He reminds us that “Attention is the battlefield where parents and kids win or lose…the battle for our children’s future is a battle for their attention today. Whoever captures their attention most consistently will win.” This is worth reading or providing to parents.
