Pioneer Clubs, an organization specializing in designing Bible-based curricula for midweek church youth functions, has created a new program specifically designed for large children’s groups.

It’s called the Exploring program, and its creators say it specifically addresses pitfalls associated with large children’s groups: adult volunteer recruitment, the logistics of dealing with lots of kids and, of course, giving the children relevant, meaningful messages week after week.

“In talking with churches, we heard their frustration—compromising program quality and content to handle a large number of children,” says Judy Bryson, president of Pioneer Clubs. “Out of necessity, they often opt for entertainment versus Christian education. Modifying a program rarely results in success and the ones who get short-changed are the children—the very people the church so wanted to reach.”

Pioneer’s Exploring program opens with a group-wide Bible presentation before the group breaks into smaller, age-appropriate groups. These smaller groups focus on the lesson at hand in a more intimate setting, opening the door for what Pioneer officials call “a life-transforming ministry.” The groups are set up so adult volunteers can focus on their areas of interest or expertise, thus making it easier to recruit them.
