Pastor Paul Thorson walks through the disillusionment many feel living in an imperfect existence, even after accepting Christ. Thorson explains the source of this disillusionment — lies we believe about ourselves and the games we play to save our reputation — and how to overcome this struggle.

Thorson is at his best as a storyteller, giving a personal touch often missing in books of its kind. The book drags a bit as Thorson moves into some standard apologetic arguments. But while not all of his ideas are fresh, his take often is. Painting should prove a helpful resource when discipling students.
