Mind Games details the struggles Turner faced in giving himself completely over to God, as well as his thoughts on how others can overcome this problem. Turner’s particular struggles surround the mind: lies, selfishness, codependency, and his inability to forgive others completely. Turner argues that God desires for His people to “think free” — a concept developed in the first few chapters. Turner lets some friends have their say, with mini-essays sprinkled throughout the book.

The main focus of the book is submission to God’s authority; but for many readers, the book will feel as much like pop-psychology as a theological exposition. At times, Mind Games seems codependent itself — as if your belief in it justifies its very existence. But the principles laid out within it seem to have helped Turner move past major obstacles in his relationship with God. For someone with these particular struggles, Turner’s advice may prove beneficial.
