The new movie, Juno, is about how “average” teenager Juno MacGuff  deals with becoming pregnant, makes tough decisions, and manages relationships while also managing the intricacies of adolescence in today’s world.

As a result of seemingly casual sexual experimentation Juno becomes pregnant. This unexpected turn forces her to deal with much more than many teenagers may expect, including decisions about abortion, the process of adoption, adult relationships, goals and dreams, and family dynamics.

The movie provides fodder for discussion about these issues, as well as the subtle themes of peer pressure, courage, integrity, values, and teenage relationships.

How do you address these issues with your students? Do you think you might use a movie like Juno to explore the relevant topics of adolescence, or do you think the majority of students in your ministry would find this world foreign and irrelevant?
