Phyllis Wheatley was 7 years old when she was taken from her home in Africa and brought to America to be sold into slavery. Fascinated by the English language, she learned to speak and write using words to fight against slavery and promote freedom.

This is written well and teaches an important piece of history. However, unless it is for a school assignment, a young teen is likely to move on to something else.
