Using many baseball metaphors, Dave Rahn and Terry Linhart distill two years of research into a readable and practical book about youth evangelism. The chapters have helpful text boxes with concise summaries when you’re tempted to skim. The program-dominated youth ministry often presents a gospel message that is “unattractive and inaccurate.”

Helping teens actually influence their friends for Christ requires dedicated adult mentors to guide them on the journey. Intentionality is a primary value, and the method is three-fold: praying hard, inviting often and explaining well.

The book was developed as a hands-on resource for youth leaders. Its format would work well as a study guide for an ongoing leadership-training group or for an individual. While not necessarily “hitting it out of the park,” this book does help youth leaders get some runs on the board.
