About one out of every 12 adolescents experienced what is termed as major depression last year, according to a study by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. About half of those polled said their depression impaired their ability to function normally. Girls appeared to be far more prone to suffer depression, with nearly 13 percent of females reporting heavy-duty depression, compared to 4.5 percent of males. (SAMSHA)
