The Supreme Court agreed to decide whether a Christian student group at the UC Hastings College of Law was right in challenging a university anti-discrimination policy. The Christian group declined to admit practicing gay members, in accordance with its guidelines, and was denied funding through fees paid by students.

The justices agreed to hear an appeal from a San Francisco chapter of the Christian Legal Society, which lost its recognition as a student group.
