Called to Be Human: Letters to My Children on Living a Christian Life
Michael Jinkins
Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Co., 2009, 150 pp., $15.00, Eerdmans.com

In a culture filled with sound bytes, text messages, e-mails, highlights and headlines, Jinkins seeks to rekindle the lost art of letter writing. With his newest book, the pastor, theologian and seminary professor attempts this with a compilation of letters written to his children. He explores themes ranging from love and relationships, to calling and doubt, to death and grief. Sharing his advice and wisdom, Jinkins does not claim to know all the answers, but seeks to humbly offer his love, compassion and spiritual direction to his children and readers.

A very easy read with memorable quotes, Jinkins accomplishes exactly what he set out to do. This book is a wonderful read for anyone who ever has struggled with faith, calling, purpose or relationships. Jinkins’ pastoral and theological wisdom, as well as his deep love for his children, are evident in every page.
