Embodying Your Faith: Becoming a Living, Sharing, Practicing Church
Tim Morey
IVP Books, 2009, 204 pp., $16.00

I am glad somebody wrote this book. In Embodying Your Faith, Tim Morey, a pastor in Torrance, Calif., seeks to engage the growing ranks of the unchurched, post-moderns in America. While coupling a scriptural foundation with a passion for sharing the gospel, Morey builds bridges between the church and those he encounters. Instead of trying to answer questions people are not asking or give “proofs” of Christianity, he urges us to enter into the stories and lives of strangers so we can know them, love them and point them to the redemptive truth of Christ. In particular, the relationships he forms at his “office” in the local Starbucks display an uncommon compassion and empathy. From sharing Ignatian meditation with a Buddhist friend to connecting with the poor at a local laundromat, Morey combines accessible theology with everyday stories; and the result is a book relevant for our time.
