Who Am I? Gaining Perspective from Illusent

By Torrey Garrison | CardboardInk.org | January 2012
I could not see, I was so blind

Like Saul from Tarsus, God is awesome

Cuz while I was on my way, I stumbled on Lecrae

And I started prayin', prayer lead to conviction

Conviction evolved to addiction

To the scriptures, this is me, dude!

I started reading the Word in the Greek and Hebrew

And He brewed something up in my life

And now I stand all glory to Christ, yeah

I am a tool, a messenger, a vessel

And I do it for His glory, nothing more, nothing less, yes!

You wanna talk about victory

Well this is more than a testimony, homie, this is His story

"Who am I? Who am I? Who can't face the word goodbye"

See it's all a story to the glory of God

You see, I didn't follow Him, I had my own agenda going on

But He gets the glory out of this story, this life event

It's all praise, all honor, and all glory to our Father, yeah

Illusent finishes the track strong. We can look at Ephesians 2:4-10, and where Jesus' love can raise anyone up from any type of lifestyle. Illusent says of this verse, "Even when my life seemed hopeless, a loving God 'being rich in mercy' stepped in and rescued me from myself and my unconscious slavery to Satan. He created in me a new heart, with new desires to know Him deeper (ref. Line: 'I started reading the Word in the Greek and Hebrew'). All this was done for my joy, and ultimately to the glory of His name! Now being enabled by His Spirit, I am to walk in the good works which God has prepared beforehand" (vv.10).

Here is what we can learn from these verses:

1)  As Illusent says, there is nothing in the world as fulfilling as Jesus Christ. We can search for those temporary fixes, but they are nothing more than cravings of the flesh (Eph. 2:3).

2) We are saved by grace and nothing else. We were dead, and Christ makes us alive (Eph. 2:5).

3) We are God's handiwork. That is so good to think about. God made each of us, and He does good work (Eph. 2:10).

I warned you these hip hop guys don't play. It's real spiritual warfare out here, and I am proud to know these guys are in the trenches with me.
