Netflix users streamed a collective 42.5 billion hours’ worth of programming last year—an increase of about 13.5 billion hours from 2014. That means the folks on each Netflix account streamed approximately 1 hour and 33 minutes of Netflix programming every day.

Experts say Netflix’s strategy of diving into original television content has accounted for much of the growth, encouraging more users to opt into the system and download a greater number of shows. It also seems to refute some assertions recently made by NBC in an investor letter.

“An NBC executive recently said Internet TV is overblown and that linear TV is ‘TV like God intended,'” Netflix said in a statement. “Our investors are not as sure of God’s intentions for TV, and instead think Internet TV is a fundamentally better entertainment experience that will gain share for many years.” (Time)
