Five football players from DeMatha Catholic High School in Maryland got in trouble recently for hiring prostitutes while on a road trip—via their cell phones. The fact that underage kids could do such a thing might surprise some, but the experts say it shouldn’t. Porn, as most of us know, is pretty ubiquitous online; and with so many teens having smartphones (which typically don’t have the filtering software found on home computers), it’s easy to obtain. For many teens who’ve been exposed to porn at early ages, it’s a short step to searching for more realistic sexual pleasures. “The Internet is the new street corner, and I tell everyone that going down to [the red light district] is nothing more than going to your browser now,” says St. Ken Penrod, a Maryland-area detective.
