Millennials—young adults between the ages of 18 and 34—kinda hate themselves.

Well, hate is probably a little misleading. But still, when Pew Research started asking Americans to define what traits would define their generation (be they Baby Boomers, Gen Xers, etc.), Millennials were far more likely to be critical of their own generation, saying that Millennials were self-absorbed, wasteful, greedy and cynical. Furthermore, they described their generation as less patriotic, responsible, moral and religious than others. The only area in which Millennials were likely to excel was supervillainy, or so we might assume.

Perhaps it’s not too surprising that many Millennials don’t consider themselves part of that selfish, wasteful, immoral generation at all. Only four in 10 are comfortable with their generational moniker, compared to eight out of 10 Boomers who say they’re proud to be Boomers. Many older Millennials say they have more in common with Gen Xers, for instance, while younger Millennials…well, they’ll just have to wait to see how the next generation will look. (Time, Pew)
