If this book were a movie, critics
would declare it a provocative — if dense — blockbuster. Johnston, a professor of
theology and culture at Fuller Seminary in Pasadena, provides a model for how
to connect love of God with love of film in this thorough study, which expands
on 2000’s first edition.
Johnston shows that movies provide
stories that provoke theological questions while helping people understand
their lives. There are dozens of Christian books on film, but this one stands
out for its thoughtful excursions into theology, film criticism, and
entertainment history, as well as its insightful references to more than 500
films.
Thumbs up for Reel Spirituality.
