Anyone working in the music industry is aware that hearing pristine sounds is the most important element of the live experience. And even a band that’s relatively new to the scene is also aware that without a great speaker system and precisely performing players, a concert experience can fall flat on dead ears. EarPeace Technologies gets even closer to the action than any other observer in the equation, launching in-ear monitors for artists (in turn enabling them to gauge the sound being projected in the audience), along with hearing screeners to aid the average person in a daily situation.
“Our new in-ear project takes up most of my time now,” says founder John Diles. “I was the guy that the Toby Keith organization called when they needed new in-ear products, and I became good friends with Toby’s monitor engineer, Earl Neal. He and I took a look at some of the great in-ear products that are out there and decided we could design our own, as well. We’re using the best, balanced armature drivers in the world, like our competitors, but making them affordable for more folks. At $249 a set, we know we’re going to reach some up-and-coming bands that might not have budgeted for in-ears because of the cost.”

Considering Neal’s Nashville connections (including work with everyone from Aerosmith to Andrea Bocelli), it’s allowed EarPeace Technologies to fit a vast array of artists, including Jon Herington of Steely Dan, Sara Evans, Terri Clark, Jo Dee Messina, Boz Scaggs, The Whites, Dierks Bentley and Joe Diffie, along with most of their band members and crews. The company also caters to the Christian music community, landing acts of all associations and genres.
“We had a great GMA week and were able to fit The Annie Moses Band, Eowyn, Our Heart’s Hero and too many other great bands and artists to mention,” continues Diles. “We are privileged to get to play a role in their live performances.”
Thus far, artists and audio product reviewers have raved about the company’s burgeoning line, and media coverage continues to expand with each big-name tour undertaking. A simple Yahoo or Google search points out a seemingly endless list of positive press, while referrals continue to grow by leaps and bounds.
Yet even with the lengthy list of celebrity superstars already signed to EarPeace Technologies, there are still plenty of services for the average person when it comes to hearing assistance, regardless of their environment. And with that, a conversation with Diles couldn’t be complete without asking about the strangest thing he’s found when looking into someone’s ear.
“What a great question!” he remarks. “I found a rusted hearing aid battery in a woman’s ear canal. And once when we were making earplugs for motorcyclists at Sturgis, we found half of a locust down in a guy’s canal. I’d say those tie for first place!”
