Hear My Voice DVDs

By Jeremy L. Phifer | September 2008

Dealing in what seem to be two unfortunate mainstays in teenage culture—Internet porn and eating disorders—The Saber and In the Mirror Dimly are part of Cross Wind Productions’ Hear My Voice series. While the idea of getting at issues that often go unaddressed in a church setting is noble, both of these DVDs ultimately fail in an attempt to be relevant, and come off corny at best. The issues only seem lightly addressed—in the typical “safe Christian” versus “real world” format.

With the entire acting cast, gaffers, grips, time-code keepers, continuity watchers, etc., being made up from the same pool of teenagers, it looks like some church’s youth group had fun making these. However, it’s a stretch to imagine other youth groups responding well, discussing the films, or even watching them completely from start to finish.
