A Greater Yes: The True Story of Amy Newhouse

Pure Flix Entertainment, 2009, 84 minutes, $19.99, Pureflix.com

Every believer has an idea of how prayer works (or doesn't), and this movie attempts to proactively challenge its viewers along these lines. Based on the real-life events of a Christian teenager who faced cancer and the community that rallied around her, the film asserts that God answers His people with a "yes," "no" or "a greater yes."

Production hurdles often found in independent films are present, from a soundtrack that occasionally overpowers the dialogue to two-dimensional acting in three-dimensional moments. Given the true content the story is based on, the script falls short of forming solid bridges between its own plot points.

Still, this movie has a heart and it's in the right place. The lead character's continuing hope in the midst of feeling rejected by God is inspiring and can lead to healthy conversations about how we respond to the way God responds to us.
