Teenagers and adults are flocking to the new breed of skateboard – the longboard.
Longboards are built like skate boards, with grip-tapped boards, trucks and wheels, but are distinctively longer and built more for gentle turning and downhill cruising than tricks.
The new trend is being fueled by a number of different crowds.
"Young women and girls increasingly are becoming more involved with longboarding," said Kathleen Gasperini, senior vice president of Label Networks, which studies youth markets, "…because it's easier than skateboarding, more inclusive, and has greater age diversity.
“Although college kids and 20-somethings make up the largest part of the longboarding population, there are also plenty of teens, Gen Xers and even Boomers."

Many longboarders are snowboarders looking for the same rush without the long drives to the mountains or the long waits for the snow season.
Ideas for Group Activity Ask your students to bring their longboards. If your budget allows, perhaps you can buy a few for the church. You can make a whole activity of long board relays: races, obstacle courses, group trips or challenges, etc. For a hot summer day, throw in some water balloons, and you've got yourself a great event!
