Trend: Relationship Violence
By Damien O'Farrell
New research suggests violence in peer-to-peer relationships is quite high among high schools students.

The research showed more than one third of those polled had experienced violence in a relationship before college. The trend continued into college but a significantly lesser rate of occurrence. Emotional and physical violence were common.

Men and women prove to be perpetrators and victims. More women are victims of sexual violence, while more men are victims of physical violence.

"The researchers cite past studies that suggest factors affecting this risk may include less monitoring by parents, isolation in an unknown environment, and a desire for peer acceptance that can change behaviors."
