A new report supports the drug battle many parents and youth ministers fight.
A new White House report states teenagers who use marijuana put themselves at higher risks for serious mental health problems, including worsening depression, schizophrenia, anxiety and suicide.
Doctors and psychologists are pushing for more realistic and alarmed responses to the widespread use of the drug among teenagers.
Since the 1960s, popular opinion about the drug has been the affects are relatively benign, but researchers, scientists and doctors seriously are challenging the opinion.
One of the concerns leading the challenge is that the marijuana available to teenagers has increased tenfold in potency since the 1960s.
The report urges parents to take their teenager's use of marijuana seriously, saying, "Parents who make an effort to understand the pressures and influences on young people are more likely to keep their teen healthy and drug-free."
