Singer/songwriter Brian Bates has been candid about struggling with homosexuality early in his life. Because of the recent gay marriage amendments in many states, as well as revelations from Clay Aiken and popular Christian artist Ray Boltz, Brian has been approached by both fans and media to give his take on how Christians should respond.

  • Reaching Beyond Ourselves: Caring for Those in Foster Care
    Connie Neal
Dianna was disappointed. She’s been in foster care since age 2, moving through 10 homes. My heart goes out to all foster care kids, but youth workers must accept our calling and our limitations. Youth in foster care have challenging family histories, which call for special care. However, we should be careful not to grow discouraged if their needs are deeper than we alone can fill.

  • Celebration & Suffering: Helping Disabled Kids Find Their Place in the Body of Christ
    Amy Jacober
This past summer, I watched a young man with muscular dystrophy fly down a zip-line into a lake. A group of guys had carried him up four stories of narrow, winding stairs to get him to the top. Once he...
  • Ministry with Deaf Teens
    Bob Ayres
“What? IMPOSSIBLE!” The puzzlement was real. Although his parents dragged him to church for his entire life, there was no interpreter, and he had little understanding of the gospel. I assured him God signs and reads sign language with incredible skill. God knows his thoughts, feelings and experiences; and He loves him completely. He began the process of making sense out of a “hearing” God who knew his language and understood his heart. “God created all languages and cultures,” I explained in sign language. “God made you in His image; God cherishes you and wants a relationship with you.” For most of his life, this teenager has seen himself as a “broken” hearing person.
