Teens who have smartphones are more likely to be sexually active, according to a study from the University of Southern California; but exactly what the connection is between the two isn’t exactly clear. Researchers surveyed more than 1,800 youth between the ages of 12 and 18 and found that almost half of the teens who owned smartphones (47%) were sexually active. Of those who didn’t own such phones, only 35 percent were active sexually; but researchers cautioned that the study only suggests a correlation between the two—not that one leads to the other. “Youth with smartphones could be having more sex for many reasons that have nothing to do with smartphones,” says David Finkelhor, director of New Hampshire’s Crimes Against Children Research Center. “I would be willing to say youth with cars are more likely to have sex, too.” (HealthDay)
