Many parents are reporting that their children can’t focus on anything but what happens to be on a screen at any given moment—a TV show, video game or some other form of digital entertainment. This has some doctors worried that too much screen time may be linked to attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. No one’s drawn any definite causal link yet, but doctors say that children who already have ADHD can stay engrossed in video games for hours. Meanwhile, a 2010 study published in the journal Pediatrics found that too much time watching TV and playing video games can cause attention problems in school kids and college students. Dr. Dimitri says that if children grow too enamored with the whiz-bang world of video games, they may “find the realities of the world underwhelming, understimulating.” (New York Times)
