The Soul of Spider-Man: Unexpected Spiritual Insights Found in the Legendary Super-Hero Series
Jeff Dunn and Adam Palmer
Gospel Light, 2010, 144 pp., $9.99, GospelLight.com

I’ve been a comic book fan for a long time, so I welcome a spiritual take on my childhood heroes. The authors leave no stone unturned as each character and central scene of this narrative is examined through a biblical lens.

Dunn and Palmer keep their chapters short and to the point. They cover a multitude of themes such as sin, identity, bitterness, power and responsibility. For me as an adult and youth worker, reading the book seemed a bit invasive. Unlike movies, the book leaves nothing to the imagination.

This is not a book for adults; it is a book for kids and youth who may not be familiar with the story. With a Spidey relaunch coming soon, this book will help kids see past the web of entertainment to the truth of the gospel.
