What's in a Name

The pier’s the same. The water’s the same. The fish ’n’ chips are the same.

No matter. Orange County’s harbor just got hipper, thanks to the county’s board of supervisors voting to add the initials “O” and “C” in front of the word “Harbor.” The board wanted to increase the harbor’s brand-name notoriety, and members apparently thought stressing the connection with The O.C., a onetime popular teen drama on Fox from 2003 to ’07, was the way to go.

The board also slapped the initials “O.C.” on the front of three county agencies, including the county’s waste management department. Considering The O.C. was cancelled last year, it’s fitting that the initials are now associated with recycling. (New York Times)
